As a former Albertan who now lives in Ontario, I’m incensed at this latest separatist mood in Alberta, especially at a time of dire threats from the U.S. And for what, really? Alberta does not have a distinct culture like Quebec does, based on language and religion. What I think it ultimately boils down to is that a loud minority of Albertan’s don’t feel that they are rich enough. These people don’t seem to realize that even when the Alberta economy is bad, it’s still better than every other province. And don’t get me started about how the vocal critics of equalization payments don’t even understand how that system works. All that said, I still think the majority of Albertans are good, intelligent people (or maybe that’s just my Edmonton bias).
I'd like to think that Albertans are nice people but pp's private byelection consolidates a block of land into altright Black Hat gang, Republicans of Alberta, crazy loon turritory, with Stormy Danielle's riding abutting it.
Maybe that lot can separate but they won't. No oil there. Just vast ranches and coal in Grassy Mountain they after so they can poison their own cattle and rivers with selenium.
Oh it's a wonderful life but it's plain old meaner. My daughter gets hate crimed for being queer, hi skule boys are more sexist than ever and the majority of kids think the ucp is good. Well they don't think, they spout what they hear at home.
We once enjoyed the best edu in the world Alberta did, now bottom feeders rule and are fed lies at home while public ed is stripped bare to subsidise private schools.
Smith thinks costs are supposed to be greater than benefits thus restructuring health care, millions of ads promoting app, trips to MerryLego, and wasting of any trust capital she might had with moderates like Peter Guthrie.
Like trump and pp, Stormy Danielle leans so far right she walks with a lurch and that's not just her morning shots. Of vodka, not vaccines.
Like Klein, she runs a tight ship in her booze addled mind and like Klein, she going down on the Bad Ship Lolly. Pop.
Dani will spend the Albertan taxpayers' money on anything and everything except anything that will benefit Albertans.
Need more doctors and nurses? Dani goes to Mar-a-Lago, Japan, & Korea. Need more funding for education? Dani puts out an expensive referendum on CPP & refuses to disclose the results. Need support for affordable housing? Dani proposes a referendum on separation.
Very little talk about the Health Care scandal with this bogus conversation. Smith acknowledged before today about the vast majority against separation but today that they are not a fringe element in our province? Being frustrated because you elect your MP’s that don’t form Government is part of democracy.
I’m frustrated a conservative is my MP but I don’t want to separate. Democracy demands I support the election and am able to voice my concerns. Referendum is election day based on politicians policies. So Smith needs to come clean- if she supports separation or not? Then we will consider our vote. Love Dylan - is the answer blowing in the wind?
I am in the same boat. CPC MLA, CPC MP and I am frustrated by that. Is my voice heard? Yes, on voting day. This whole idea that our voices are not heard because our selected MP doesn't stand up for whatever in Alberta is a ludicrous idea. If that MP is not bringing the concerns of all the constituency to the debates in the H of C, that is on that MP, and that MP should be changed as soon as possible. But so many prairie gophers keep voting for the same party, even after they had a Conservative Government for 10 years and no noticeable benefit to Alberta. But that is exactly what these folks have been brain washed to think that perhaps a change might actually help. I too am not a separatist, and hope that the UCP is soundly defeated on way or another. Separation to Smith is another fire lit to smoke screen the Health Care Scandal.
It would be odd if we learned that this recent push is backed by the US and their MAGA movement. It would be even weirder if the CIA were involved as well.
This is amusing. The CIA has not done this kind of stuff for a long time. Instead, it farms the work out. Sometimes it goes through this Endowment for Democracy and non profits. In Alberta, the oil companies funded most of the destabilization of society. However, lately the American oil business has lost interest in Alberta. That is part of the conservatives problem. Much of the current right wing lunacy is indeed from the MAGA like groups, and International Democratic Union. This group is partly opposed to CIA which is a tool of the older American establishment.
Ruling classes are not monoliths. There is usually infighting among them.
Lisa Young: Got to keep the Canadian theme going, eh? Another Manitoba artist, Tom Cochrane, with a guest appearance from Alex Lifeson, from Rush, a very well known and very popular Canadian band. Just Scream, happens to match what Danielle Smith is doing to a T.
Lisa Young: You might remember this song from a well known Winnipeg, Manitoba band, The Guess Who. American Woman. This was all over the airwaves in 1970. It happened to be a #1 hit song in Canada and the United States. A good song for MAGA Danielle Smith. Burton Cummings & Randy Bachman sure had the sentiment right.
In 1976, my eldest sibling was almost through high school and off to a decades long career. They would remember those times. Disco was a thing, and we had a stable provincial government in Alberta. In fact, I even remember how Alberta was so wealthy in the 1970s, when I heard it on the radio. The UCP aren't your parent's Conservatives. We aren't wealthy anymore, and the UCP are pushing this separation garbage, because they have issues here at home that are going to end them.

And we ain't waiting 14 years this time.
IM Citizen: Can't argue with that. Spot on.

I could go on--and on and on and on and on.
Need AISH supplement from the feds? Dani claws it back like the greedy effing shite she is.
Exactly.
Alberta is like the whining child, who if they don't get what they want are going to take their ball and go home.
Around 72% of Albertans would vote against separating from Canada because we’re Canadians.
