I was all ready to write a post telling you that the by-election results didn’t amount to anything to get excited about, but then Premier Smith interruped my flow and announced another panel. So down we go to the province’s Rec Room.
Maybe, when Legge and Tombe see the REST of the panel are ignoring what Albertans--most Albertans, ca. 75%--really want, they'll either 1) write a dissenting report of their own, or 2) announce very loudly that they're disgusted with the political whitewash, and write a dissenting report of their own.
Unless, of course, their contracts contain a gag clause prohibiting them from bursting Smith's bubble. I hope their lawyers read the fine print!
The UCP is too moderate for Preston these days, particularly when moderating voices get invited to participate (even if the intent is to neutralize them).
I looked at her list of topics: everything we've already told her "No" on. Isn't the definition of insanity doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different response? Or is that the definition of stupidity?
Last time she sent a panel around, I said I count on the federal government to protect me from the UCP; I guess it now changes to "I count on the federal government to protect me from her buddy Trump and the UCP."
Well, she can't go to Mar-a-Lago every week. Trump's housekeeper is getting tired of her, and she still hasn't got to see Trump.
She's just GOT to find something besides Alberta's needs to spend Alberta's money on. Just imagine if she ended the year with a surplus and people started asking her to spend it on Alberta Health or education.
Q: Is Premier Danielle Smith actually being strategic by putting smart people like Trevor Tombe and Licia Corbella Legge on a panel to pop the separatist balloon... while letting her base think she is onside with elbowing Ottawa?
Or am I just projecting rational thought where there is none?
A little chaos, a little cowboy, (All Hat No Horse)... maybe just classic political misdirection — look over here while we do something over there.
Panels can give the illusion of action without any real risk. “Look, we’re studying it!” They absorb the outrage so the politicians don’t have to. Everyone wins. Except maybe the public.
AB is months away from a petition on a referendum. That petition is unlikely to gain the required signatures. Any theoretical referendum is at least a year away.
Tombe and Legge add credibility to the panel. Don't make the assumption that dissenting voices on the panel will be silenced.
The Feds fear consiturional talk more than anything. I suspect they will make concessions to avoid going there. Smith is correct to up the stakes when the Feds have their hands more than full with other urgent matters.
I'm liking she's doubling down on stupid - reaffirms with anyone with three sparking brain cells she's still dangerously out of touch with real Albertans living in Canada.
Sure she's throwing table scraps to the crazier-than-a-cut-calf-at-fly-time wing of her execrable party - that's on brand as well. Its a nothing burger as you said - the new "Gnu Panel" is a tired idea to pull eyes from the grotesque incompetence of her administration.
So sorry for high-jacking your thread here Lisa, but can I put this question to Smith one more time
"Hey Danielle - can you stir your fat ass to get plastic health cards issued? Surely to Lord Levitating Baby Jesus you can manage this one small improvement for all Albertan's lives?"
Trevor! Say it isn't so!

I hope they will. Two of our clearest logical voices as Albertans being drawn into the abyss is the last thing this province's citizens need.
A strategy old as Dani's arse and twice as smelly. Neutralize the critics with a tada! cushy appointment.
What, no quarter-million $ Preston on the pain-all this time ‘round?!

I think that all Danielle Smith and the rest of the UCP are doing is wasting our money.

Another quipster added, The Shady Bunch with recognizable still shady faces.

Is it really possible, after all this time, after all the political buffoonery that has taken place, that a whole constituency can be so stupid?
Is there really no one there with the brain power to see through this nonsense?
Carol Brady played by Florence Henderson is the matriarch of The Brady Bunch.
Yup more of the same, thx Lisa

Just unfollowed Tombe. We’re pooched
He's a smart guy, so maybe he's putting himself in a position to talk some sens... oh, ok maybe not.
