The Sovereignty Act has been out for 16 hours now, and there’s some excellent analysis that has been written: one by Eric Adams and another by Jason Markusoff. A line worth repeating from Markusoff: “for all the advance debate about what it meant in Smith's head for the province to have sovereign powers, nobody expected that Smith fancied giving herself the powers
Yep. It's also a trap for the Federal Liberals and NDP. Anything they say about the Act, no matter how it's couched or prefaced will be raw meat for Smith and the 'Ottawa is ganging up on us' crowd. I wish I felt better about voters in AB seeing through this nonsense. The smartest thing the Liberals can do about this Act is say nothing and let Smith fall face first into her own trap.
Couldn't the NDP simply abstain from all these votes and say that they do not recognise them as legitimate? That way they can’t be said to have voted against them, and by abstaining they’re underscoring the illegitimacy of them.
Lots can happen between now and spring. Every day Smith opens her mouth and retracts some of her rhetoric, trust levels fall, and she does have a lot of room to maneuver based on Janet Brown’s recent poll…Yes, we have the Convoy crowd, who feel angry and agree with her latest fiasco but overall Albertans are tired of the chaos and drama and having no regard for what is important to Albertans. Especially health care which she appears to want to privatize. It time to realize the power, we as Albertans have. No one had any issue with it in 2015. 👏 It’s time for Albertans to be citizens as opposed to consumers, and stop feeling someone else will do it for us. Get engaged, informed and involved. We also we have no idea what will happen with the virus and the respiratory illness with the children. Kenney, felt he had it in the bag and then COVID hit…virus and respiratory illness are non partisan, they’re symbolic and as I said lots can happen…😞 her intentions are not sincere, never have been as its all about power and ego for DS….
